Hobbton Middle won their second game in a row Thursday evening by beating the visiting Union Middle Spartans 4-3. “Somehow we managed to find a way to win,” said Hobbton coach Damon Burnett. “It’s frustrating when you are getting your shots but not finding the goal. The defense stepped up in the end to secure the win.
Hobbton out-shot Union 8 to 1 in the first half, but would only score on a penalty kick by Cesar Castillo with three minutes left.
Four minutes into the second half, Christian Vega extended Hobbton’s lead when he would score from 18 yards out.
The Spartans responded three minutes later when Hector Robles would score on a corner kick Union would tie the game up when Miguel Antonio scored five minutes later.
Hobbton took the lead again when Kevin Montes kicked a shot, that bounced off Union keeper’s hands with 9 minutes to play.
Union knotted the game up again two minutes later with Robles’ second goal on the day to make it 3-3.
With three minutes to go,Union’s defense attempted to clear a ball but he accidentally put it in his own goal to give the Wildcats a 4-3 lead.
Hobbton, now at 3-1, out-shot the Spartans 16-7 in the contest.
