The Roseboro-Salemburg Middle boys got a close win over Midway Monday. Final score was 39-34.
Midway jumped out to a first quarter lead, 12-8, but Roseboro dug in, began to press and force turnovers that led to points.
“It was a good game,” Roseboro coach Todd Wheeler said. “I like them when they’re close.”
At the half, Roseboro’s young Leopards had a slim 1-point lead at 17-16. But they were able to open up a lead in the third as they amassed 14 more points while holding Midway to only 5. And, even though Midway found their own burst of energy in the final period, scoring 13 points to Roseboro Middle’s 8, it wasn’t enough to edge them out.
“Midway played a really good game, too. I thought both teams did,” Wheeler said.
Leading the way for Roseboro was Nyquan Murphy with 23 points. Teammate Quamaine Williams added 8 points.
Midway’s stats were not called in by press time.
The win moves the young Leopard record to 2-0. They return to the court Wednesday when they host Sampson. Game time is 4 p.m.
