The Midway Middle Raiders football team traveled into Wildcat territory Thursday evening and came away with a 28-22 victory.
The first quarter was all Wildcats.
The Raiders kicked off and the kick failed to travel the required 10 yards. The Wildcats took the ball on the Raider 48-yard line. On first down, Caleb Robinson got outside to the left and scampered 48 yards for a score 15 seconds into the game. Raekown Bryant ran for two giving the Wildcats an 8-0 lead.
The Raiders answered covering 61 yards with Shaking Warren going the final 18 yards for the score just over one minute into the game. The point after failed on a run. The Wildcats held on to an 8-6 lead.
Midway’s defense stopped the Wildcats, forcing a punt on the next series. However, they fumbled the punt with Kyle Feige recovering for the Wildcats on the Raider 35-yard line. Hobbton turned that into a score when Robinson got in from 5-yards out with 1:53 left in the first quarter. Joshua Polk scored the extra point for the Wildcats making it 16-6.
Early in the second quarter, the Wildcats stopped the Raiders on the Wildcat 15-yard line on an incomplete fourth down pass. On first down, Bryant got outside again and scampered 86-yards for another Wildcat score. The point after failed leaving the score at 22-6 with just over six minutes left in the half. The Wildcats took a 22-6 lead into the break.
The second half was all Raiders.
Midway took the opening kick off 50 yards with Jake Clark going the last yard for the score. The point after failed leaving the score at 22-12.
The Raiders scored again with 1:25 left in the third quarter on an 8-yard run by Warren. He also scored the point after to make it 22-20, Hobbton.
The final score came with 2:55 left in the game after the Raiders moved the ball 61-yards again with Clark covering the last three yards to make it 26-22, Raiders. Warren scored the point after on a run for the final, 28-22.
For the Wildcats, Bryant had 144 yards on 10 carries and 2 touchdowns. Robinson had 133 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown. Defensively, Robinson had 11 tackles while Bryant had 6.
Wildcat coach, Jackson Temple, said his team was playing for a cause, breast cancer awareness, and that the players were all wearing pink shoelaces provided by the coaches.

Once again, "The second half was all..."...referees.
I understand this was middle school football, meaning there were no million dollar prizes for anyone at the end of the game, but never in my life have I seen such poor (and I use this term very loosely)...officiating. It was just so sad that those boys could not have more fun because of one-sided calling. Shame on (at least one of) the officials. Before you beat me up...ask around...somebody has footage of it!
