KENANSVILLE – James Sprunt Community College has implemented a new Leadership Development Academy as a part of its leadership development program at JSCC consisting of the Leadership Development Academy (LDA) and the Advanced Leadership Development Academy (ALDA).
The new JSCC Leadership Development Academy brings together experienced James Sprunt Community College employees who have a passion to lead in their current roles and advance to higher education leadership positions. As stated in the application package, “Each employee who desires to assume leadership positions and gain better leadership skills in his/her current job is encouraged to apply.”
“When I came to James Sprunt eight years ago as its president, I looked at the college and the fact that many employees would be retiring from leadership roles in the near future. I realized that the institution would require new leaders. As a result, I saw the need for development programs to provide those new leaders the skills and tools to successfully step into those leadership roles,” said Dr. Lawrence L. Rouse, JSCC president.
“President Rouse has once again demonstrated his commitment to produce more quality leaders within James Sprunt Community College by offering a quality leadership development program for faculty and staff this year,” said Academy Director, Jimmy T. Tate, director of Strategic Initiatives and Organizational Effectiveness.
“We have decided to offer the LDA and the ALDA on an alternating basis each year,” added Tate. “The reason behind this change is to allow everyone an opportunity to participate in the academy because it is a requirement that students selected into the Advanced Leadership Development Academy must have completed the Intermediate JSCC Leadership Development Class or the Duplin County Center for Leadership Development Academy before being selected into the Advanced Leadership Development Academy,” explained Tate.
The participants in the academy must meet many requirements including the selection of a group community service project. This year’s class includes Stephanie Stuart, John Pruesser, Roszena Bivens, Will Wrenn, Mary Ann Simmons, Marsha McCoy, Erin Thigpen, Katena Coor, and Travis Rich.
