A Lakewood High School teenager was killed and three others injured in a one-vehicle collision on Mintz Road Friday night.

According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, Ronald Lucas, 16, of Roseboro died as a result of injuries from the accident. He was a back seat passenger in the vehicle, driven by 18-year-old Bethany Pilkington of Clinton. He was not wearing a seat belt, authorities said.

The accident happened around 9:15 p.m. as the 2002 Jeep Pilkington was driving was headed east on Mintz Road.

Sgt. B.D. Smith said the driver crossed the center line and lost control of the vehicle in a curve. The Jeep struck a ditch, overturned and then struck a tree.

Pilkington and two other passengers, Jonathan Herring, 18, and Allison Helms, 18, were all injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. The driver’s injuries were said to be minor. Herring and Helms injuries were classified as serious. No condition reports were available at press time.

Smith said an investigation into the accident was ongoing.

What difference does it make, proudleopardmom? Why don't you ask the Lucas Family that question? I'm sure your concern will be greatly appreciated.
