More than 50 families were in attendance for a themed Literacy Night hosted by the Union Intermediate library and the school’s reading teachers. The event entitled Literacy Olympics included various stations for parents and students to engage in reading and literacy activities.

Students and parents read books, created bookmarks, played reading computer games, completed a sequencing activity, and participated in a newspaper scavenger hunt, the favorite of the night! With the completion of 5 stations, students were treated with a book of their very own to take home.

Special guests included Pauline Cole of the Sampson County Parks & Recreation and her son, SP4 Marc Cole of the United States Army. Pauline and Marc lead a story time station, and Marc answered questions from the students.
