A Sampson County woman claims she was robbed at gunpoint Monday while she was sitting at a stop sign on Stewart Avenue.
The victim alerted Clinton police to the incident Monday, and a suspect is being sought in the case.
According to reports, the woman told officers she had left a local business and was heading down what she thought was Stewart Avenue when she stopped for a stop sign. That’s when, she said, a man, described as a black male wearing all black clothing an a yellow bandanna over his face, came up to her vehicle, pointed a gun in the window and demanded money.
The woman said she told the would-be robber that she didn’t have any cash with her. He apparently accepted her reply but spotted a prescription bag on her front seat and demanded, instead, that she hand over the medicine.
Reports note the woman handed over the bag which, she told police, contained a total of 100 Percocet pills.
An investigation is ongoing.
