Yet another Sampson County life has been claimed at the hands of an alleged impaired driver, now charged in the fatal accident.
Sharon Brayboy, 49, of 240 Daughtry Town Road, Clinton, died Saturday night when the vehicle she was a passenger in overturned and struck a ditch on Bucktown Road, near Keener Road.
N.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. Bryan Smith said Brayboy was not belted in at the time of the accident.
Charged in the fatal wreck is Stephanie Hunter Davis, 30, of 3155 East Darden Road, Faison. She was the driver of the vehicle.
Davis now faces a felony death by vehicle charge. That offense is leveled, Smith said, when impaired driving is involved.
A blood test to determine Davis level of impairment was not available at press time.
She was taken into custody, placed under a $25,000 unsecured bond and released the night of the accident.
The wreck occurred around 7:15 p.m. Saturday on State Road 1823 (Bucktown Road) near Keener Road when Davis’ vehicle, traveling west, ran off the road to the right, struck the ditch and overturned.
Less than a week ago, 7-year-old Alyiah Morgan was struck and killed by another alleged impaired driver, after exiting a school bus and heading across the road to her waiting mother.
Johnny Allen Spell, 37, of Bud Spell Lane, has been charged with a string of offenses in that fatality, including felony hit and run, involuntary manslaughter, felony passing a stopped school bus and driving while impaired. He remains in the Sampson County Detention Center under a $200,000 bond.
