Pre-K students and their families are invited to attend an open house and celebration event at the newly renovated Clinton City Schools’ Pre-K Center on Monday, May 20.
Located at 606 College St.on the historic College Street campus, the Pre-K Center is new and improved, having undergone some major changes recently.
“We have renovated the first floor,” said assistant superintendent Clyde Locklear of the impressive front building with big white columns that faces the street. “It now includes three new classrooms for pre-K students, 3 and 4 year olds.”
“Each of the classrooms has a bathroom which is what is required for that age group,” continued Locklear, mentioning that the existing bathrooms were left in tact, ensuring that there are plenty of bathrooms available at the facility.
Upgrading the heating and air, redoing the ceilings, and improving the lighting were also aspects of the renovation. “We also refurbished the hardwood floors that are original to the building,” Locklear added.
Accommodations for handicapped and disabled persons were included in the project as well. “We now have a handicapped ramp at the front of the building, providing the necessary accessibility,” noted Locklear.
These improvement were part of just the first phase of renovations. Locklear shared that a second phase is being planned and will include refurbishing two more classrooms located at the back of the Pre-K Center.
During the open house, which will be from 4 to 6 p.m., “people can just drop in and take a tour of the facility,” shared Locklear. “They will get to see the classrooms and all of the improvements that have been made.”
“I think people who visit the center will see the historical space that maybe they remember from being there as a child, but they will also see how the building is continuing to be used to educate our children,” continued Locklear. “They will get to see that the building is still a viable part of the community.”
