Knowles to serve on Veterans and Military Advisory Committee U.S. Congressman Mike McIntrye welcomes Ann Knowles, Sampson County Veterans Service Officer as a new member on his Veterans and Military Advisory Committee, Knowles attended the first meeting since her appointment back in March in Wilmington. McIntrye, first elected to represent the 7th Congressional District in 1996, is on the House Ag and Armed Services committees. Knowls said she was pleased to be on this committee as she sees it as a step to make sure the issues surrounding veterans is in front of the congressman all the time. She has worked with him on a couple of bills he was instrumental in getting passed, including the Veterans Outreach Bill which pass unanimously through the House. It will be introduced again by McIntrye with the hope that the Senate will do a companion bill and it will become law. (Courtesy photo)

Lions Fish Fry Thursday Volunteers work to prepare fish plates during last year's annual Clinton Lions Club Fish Fry. They'll be doing it again Thursday, April 25, at the Sampson Agri-Expostion Center during the much-anticipated fry, which will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and again from 4 until 7 p.m. Tickets are available from any Lion member or at the door. Eat in or take out available. The Lions will also be collecting eyeglasses during the day to be sent to people in need in other countries. Last year, Lions distributed more than 6 million glasses in developing nations. Local residents are urged to drop off glasses when they come by to pick up their fish plates. (Courtesy photo)

Bus Roadeo winners announced On Tuesday, April 16, Sampson County Schools Transportation Department held the 27th Annual School Bus Roadeo at East Park Cinema. Each Sampson County School and each Clinton City School sent a representative to compete for the title of the best skilled driver. The 21 drivers completed a course with seven skills showing how well they drove a bus. First place trophy and title of best driver went to Chris Owens, representing the Clinton High School drivers. Second place winner was Connie Hope from Union Elementary School, and third place was Jeannie Dale from Midway Elementary School.
