The Hobbton Wildcats varsity volleyball team faced off against Goldsboro on Wednesday afternoon, falling for the first time this season. Scores for the contest were 25-15, 25-20, and 25-20.
Coach Russell Jones said he saw some good things during the match and was very pleased with the team’s effort. The sets were close, he said, but Goldsboro would reel off four or five points in a row and the Wildcats couldn’t catch up.
The varsity record now stands at 2-1.
Hobbton’s JV volleyball team lost a close one, winning the first set 25-23, but losing the second set 25-21, and in the rubber set losing 16-14. The sets were back and forth with good plays on behalf of both teams. Similar to the varsity game, the score was back and forth, but Goldsboro used four- and five-point streaks to pull away.
“Even though we lost, I’m very proud of the girls,” said Jones.
The JV record stands at 1-1.
