Hobbton wins Cross Country Invitational

Ashley Hinterleiter finishes the Hobbton Cross Country Invitational Tuesday afternoon with a time of 22:01.


Both Hobbton Wildcat cross country teams won the preseason cross country invitational Tuesday afternoon. Along with Hobbton, Clinton, Midway, Princeton, Neuse Charter, North Duplin, Heidi Trask, Rosewood and Pender participated.

In track, the lowest score wins the meet. Hobbton’s men won the meet with a score of 29; although, their fastest time was by Sean Silcott with a time of 19:58. Austin Sullivan of Princeton had the best time of 18:10. Clinton’s Charles Jordan had a time of 18:57. Overall, Clinton placed third.

Hobbton’s coach Jeff Klaves said, “In the preseason, Hobbton’s men are one spot out of the state championships. We still have a lot of work to do.”

On the women’s side, Ashley Hinterleiter smoked the competition with a time of 22:01 to take the win. North Duplin’s Haley Thurston was second with a time of 22:42 and Clinton’s Elizabeth Coleman was third with a time of 23:08. Kendy Rangel of North Duplin was fourth at 24:23.

Team standings included Hobbton with 37 points, Clinton with 46 points and Heidi Trask with 73.

“The preseason standings have the women making the state championships,” Klaves added.

The Wildcats will be hosting three more events as the season progresses. Those times will be announced.
