Mintz Christian sails to a 3-1 win over Coastal

Samantha Marshburn, a senior for Mintz Christian Academy, had a good night serving for the Lady Lions.


The Mintz Christian Academy Lady Lions roared back into the winning column Tuesday night, soundly defeating Columbus Christian in four sets.

The Lions controlled the opening set with with several serving runs by Erynn Sessoms and Caroline Matthews, winning 25-18. The Pacers of Columbus Christian battled back in the second set, taking advantage of unforced errors and missed serves to win 25-22.

However, the Lions fought back in the third with Savannah Fann dishing out nine assists, including five kills by Courtney Barber. MCA won that set 25-19 and would build on the momentum, sweeping the fourth set 25-8. Lions coach Dan Heinz, praised his girls’ efforts.

“The girls worked very hard tonight,” he said. “Samantha Marshburn had a seven-point serving run at a critical point, and we got great play from Emma White and Charlotte Smith in the middle.”

The Lions are home on Friday, facing Temple Christian out of Rockingham.
