Lady Horses nip Lady Pats in five-set thriller

Clinton hosted Pender in a conference volleyball match on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Dark Horses and Lady Patriots battled in five sets, all closely contested, before Clinton finally prevailed with a 3-2 win over the Lady Patriots.

The Lady Dark Horses took the first set 25-20 only to see the Lady Patriots answer with a 23-25 win in the second set to even the match. Clinton regained the lead with a 25-23 win in the third but Pender refused to die, answering the bell with a 22-25 win in the fourth set. Clinton held on to win the fifth set, edging out the Lady Patriots 15-13 in the final set to take the match 3-2.

Jasmine Ford had a huge effort at the nets for Clinton, posting 12 blocks and four tips. Corey Spell added 12 kills and two spikes and Taylor Spell chipped in seven blocks, four kills and three spikes. Mary Johnson had in seven kills to help the Lady Horses to the conference win.

After the match, Clinton head coach Jennifer Edgerton commented on her team’s win, saying, “the girls played tough tonight. This was a good conference win.”

The win improves the Lady Dark Horses’ record to 7-9 overall and 5-3 in Four County Conference play. Clinton will travel to East Bladen for their next match on Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Dark Horse JV squad took a 2-1 win over the Pender JV in the opener.
