The Hobbton High School held its Annual Fall 5K run last Saturday. The turnout was low; however, it was a good day for the runners who did participate.
The overall winner was Keith Coleman, an over-40 runner. Second place went to Mateyo Owens of the Lakewood JROTC program and third place was Brandon Maldonado of the James Kenan JROTC program. Fourth and fifth place were Steven Newman and Michael Newman, respectively, both members of the Lakewood JROTC program.
Winners of the 10-14 age group were: Steven Newman, first place; Mireya Ramirez of Faison, second place; Megan Buck of Newton Grove, third; and Olivia Williams of Clinton, fourth place.
In the 40-49 age group, the winners were Matilda Castro of Newton Grove and Jason Rinka of Clinton.
The JROTC challenge was implemented two years ago, with Lakewood and James Kenan competing for that honor. Lakewood won with a score of 21. James Kenan’s score of 27 was better than last year’s score. This is Lakewood’s third year in a row to take the challenge.
Among the JROTC runners, Owens was first, Maldonado was second, the Newmans were third and fourth, and Halasia Henson, from James Kenan, was fifth.
