The Lady Dark Horse volleyball team returned to action after an extended break due to Hurricane Matthew’s visit to the region. Clinton celebrated their seniors before the match tipped off, showering the seniors with balloons, gifts and words of praise. Unfortunately the celebration was spoiled by the Lady Bulldogs as the visitors made quick work of the Lady Dark Horses in route to a 3-0 straight-sets win.
The first set was close early on but Wallace-Rose Hill pulled away, getting the 16-25 win to stake them out to a 1-0 lead. The Lady Dark Horses kept the second set close but an unforced error down the stretch allowed Wallace-Rose Hill to take the commanding 2-0 lead with a 25-27 second set win.
Wallace-Rose Hill opened up a 7-0 lead early in the third set and they never let up, closing out the Lady Dark Horses 16-25 to complete the straight set sweep of the Lady Dark Horses.
Clinton senior Corey Spell had a big night for the Lady Dark Horses with 14 spikes and three digs. Taylor Spell added 10 digs and six spikes and Jasmine Ford had six pushes and two blocks. After the match Clinton coach Jennifer Edgerton said it was a subpar performance from her team.
“This was a disappointing performance for senior night,” the coach noted. “It was obvious that we had not had much practice time. We were a little rusty.”
The loss drops Clinton to 8-12 overall and 6-5 in conference play. Clinton will travel to Trask on Wednesday for another Four County Conference duel with the Lady Titans.
