The Hobbton girls soccer team kicked off their season on Monday night as they hosted St. Pauls in the regular season opener. The Lady Wildcats had a good evening, taking out the visiting Lady Bulldogs 3-0 to kick off the 2017 season.

The Wildcats netted two goals in the first half and added an insurance goal in the second. Maggie Langston, Jennifer Escalera and Norma Vallejo scored the goals.

“I think this is a great way to start off the year,” said Hobbton coach Jonathan Jacobs. “This is the first time in my tenure as coach that we have won the opening game. We’ve tied, we’ve lost by one goal in the past, but this is the first opening game win we’ve had. We have eight seniors and it’s good to have them show the others the way we go. We have the experience, but below that, we have a lot of young freshmen and sophomores. It’s good to see the seniors get that first game win.”

The Wildcats host Union Wednesday night and will travel to take on Union once more Friday night. Game time Wednesday is 6 p.m. and Friday’s match is at 5 p.m.
