The Midway baseball, softball and girls soccer teams were back on the field for the second day in row on Wednesday night, this time hosting the Triton Hawks from just up Highway 421 in Dunn. It was a rough night for two of the three teams as the Lady Raiders soccer team brought home the only win of the night for the Raider teams.

Soccer

The Lady Raiders completed the season sweep over the visiting Lady Hawks, winning 2-0 to improve their record. Rachel Edwards scored the unassisted go-ahead goal for Midway with 8:09 remaining in the first half. The game remained locked at 1-0 until Kasey McLamb added a second goal on a penalty kick with 22:36 remaining in the game to give the Lady Raiders an insurance goal. They never needed it. Midway completed the shut out and improved their overall record to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the Four County Conference.

Baseball

Wednesday nights rematch against the Hawks was by far a different outcome than Midway’s 1-0 win earlier in the season. The Hawks bats came alive as Triton overpowered Midway, winning 14-5. Midway led 2-1 early but the tide quickly changed in favor of the Hawks as the Raiders just couldn’t put together the plays needed to get back into the game. With the loss, Midway falls to 6-3 overall and stands at 4-1 in the conference.

Softball

Much like the first meeting between the two, the Lady Hawks used a strong defense coupled with impressive hitting to clobber the Lady Raiders. The game was shortened to five innings as Triton run-ruled Midway with the 13-1 victory. The Lady Hawks scored three of their runs in the first inning to create the 3-0 lead before scoring five runs in both the third and fourth innings to build the lead to 13-0. Midway finally cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning when Blythe Best scored Laura Person but it was too little too late as Triton cruised on for the victory. With the loss, Midway falls to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

All three Midway teams will be back in action on Friday, resuming conference play with a road trip to Trask.
