The first round of the State 2A Women’s Soccer Championships on Wednesday proved to be another landslide win for the Lady Dark Horses. They easily dispatched Roanoke Rapids by the score of 7-0.

Clinton freshman Taylor Spell was a standout in the game, breaking past Roanoke Rapid’s defensive line for four goals in the contest. Her second goal, a header into the Yellowjackets’ net, pushed the first half’s offensive momentum. From there, the Lady Dark Horses swiftly racked up goal after goal, as Roanoke Rapids scrambled to compose their defense.

Katey Bauman, also a freshman, helped continue to drive the tempo of the game with the game’s fourth goal in the second half with Kayla Yang on the assist.

Clinton’s final goal of the night was scored by Ruthie Brock, assisted by Elizabeth Coleman, for the 7-0 margin.

The loss closes Roanoke Rapids’ season with a final record of 6-11-0.

The Lady Dark Horses will host South Granville this Saturday for their next match in the second round. The win improves the Dark Horses’ overall record to 20-1-2.
