Lakewood Country Club will host the John Robert Rosario Scholarship Golf Tournament, slated for Aug. 15.

The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. It will be captain’s choice, or superball, and each team will be made up of four players.

John Robert Rosario, the young man who was known for saying, “God bless everyone in the whole wide world,” passed away May 29 in a drowning accident while he and his family were vacationing. This is event is to begin a scholarship fund in his memory.

Lakewood’s head golf pro Curt Pritchard was pleased for Lakewood to be the host course for this special event.

“Here at Lakewood, we are very honored to host an event that means so much to so many people,” Pritchard said. “It will be a great day here on the golf course and sort of a celebration of the young man’s life. We are hoping for a great turnout and great participation in this event.”

Lakewood welcomes the tournament with the course in the best shape it has been in all year, with the fairways and greens each playing very true.

The event’s deadline registration is Aug. 10. Each player’s entry fee will be $65, and the event will be flighted. For each winning team, there will be gift cards to the Lakewood Country Club pro shop.

Additional prizes will be awarded for closest to the pin on the four par three holes, and a $10,000 cash prize will be awarded if a hole in one is made on the par three seventeenth hole. The hole in one prize at seventeen is being sponsored by ABC Express Insurance.

Go Automotive Chevrolet is also sponsoring the opportunity for a hole in one on the par three ninth hole.

Breakfast and lunch are included in the entry fee. It is also encouraged that anyone who wishes to sponsor a hole do so. To sponsor a hole, contact Jessica Sessoms at 910-590-6625, or Kelly Williams at 910-358-7113.
