Union and West Bladen battled it out on the volleyball court on Thursday. The game went five sets, while the teams played hard in each. The Knights came out on top after an intense match.
The Spartans started out strong taking the first set 25-18. However, the Knights came back fighting knocking the Lady Spartans off of their game. West Bladen took the second set 14-25.
Union started out well in the third set, but lost it quickly and couldn’t gain it back. The Knights swept the Spartans by a score of 13-25.
At the start of the fourth set, the Lady Spartans showed some grit. The score remained tied for most of the set until Union began to pull ahead. They took the set by a score of 25-19.
In the fifth and final set, the Knights took the win beating the Spartans 15-10.
Spartans Alison Alphin, Mia Bronson, and Skye Page contributed many aces while Destiny Robinson and Lindsey Ammons lead in blocks.
Head coach Krystin Moore explained some of the problems that affected the team and commented on West Bladen’s performance.
“Lack of communication was the big problem for us this game. West Bladen hit the ball well and they are strong offensively, continually covering the court,” she said. “We had some very good points during the game but couldn’t string them all together for the win.”
The JV Spartans also lost in two consecutive sets with scores of 19-25 and 17-25.
The Lady Spartans will travel to Trask for their next match against the Lady Titans on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
