HCA sweeps Cape Fear Academy

HCA’s varsity volleyball team opened up conference play at home against Cape Fear Academy on Tuesday night. The Lady Crusaders dominated the entire match, winning 3 sets to none.

HCA ran away with the first two sets, winning the 1st by a score of 25-11, and the 2nd one 25-14. The 3rd and final set of the match was tightly contested, but the girls in green and gold pulled away to win 25-17.

HCA was led by an incredible performance from senior Abigail Blanchard, who was 21-22 serving, with 2 aces, 3 kills and 2 blocks. Sophomore standout Sydney Norris also had a great match, as she was 16-16 serving with 4 aces. Senior Marissa Parks led the Crusaders with 8 digs, while fellow senior Mary Grace Norris was second with 5. HCA is now 6-1 on the season.

The JV squad was also in action against Cape Fear, in what turned out to be a very exciting battle between two talented teams. While HCA won 2 sets to none to improve to 2-2 this season, the score line shows a very competitive match. The Crusaders won the 1st set 25-20, and squeaked out a victory in the 2nd by a score of 25-23. Sophomore Kyra Gensil was 11-11 serving with 1 ace and 11 assists. Marlee Scronce, also a sophomore, led HCA with 3 kills.
