The North Duplin Rebels brought their 5-1 record and strong play of late to Salemburg on Monday, as they took on the Lakewood Leopards in a soccer match.
The Leopards continued their good play, as they built an early 3-0 victory, and were able to hang on for a 3-2 victory.
Leading Lakewood was Frances Flores with 2 goals, and Jonathan Gonzalez with the other. Matt Wuester had 2 assists, and goalie Pate Holland had 12 saves on 14 shots on goal.
“It was a good showing from our guys. The defense played great, and the offense, really the way we moved offensively in the first half, I thought was the best we have all season. We finally were able to get off to a good start tonight, and that was big for us,” said Lakewood head coach Jay Faircloth.
The win for Lakewood has them sitting pretty atop the conference standings, early in the conference portion of the schedule, at 2-0.
“Well, being 2-0 in conference, that feels good,” continued the Leopard head coach. “We have never been in that spot, and we’ll hope to keep it going.”
Lakewood is slated to travel to Neuse Charter to try to continue their strong play on Wednesday. The game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
