After traveling and defeating Pender on Tuesday, the Union Spartans hosted the East Bladen Eagles in a soccer match Wednesday night that was never completed, due to incliment weather.

Early into the first half goalie, Irvin Depaz stopped an Eagle shot on goal that seemed to set the tone. The match then turned into a midfield battle as both teams’ defenses kept the ball from nearing either goal.

Finally, at the 15:46 mark, Marco Baltazar was able to find the net for the Spartans.

After Baltazar’s goal, Union controlled the ball but East Bladen defense kept the Spartans from finding the net. With 2:22 left in the first half, Arcenio Najera swept through the defenses and gained Union another goal from an assist by Xavy Lazo. The Spartans took their 2-0 lead into halftime.

Only a few minutes into the second half Marco Baltazar scored another goal giving Union a 3-0 lead. As East Bladen took control of the ball the Spartan defense continued to push the Eagles away from the net. The Spartans pushed back down the field and Irvin Ocampo shot a corner kick that a West Bladen player kicked into their own goal.

The match completely changed as East Bladen fought back hard scoring three goals back to back at 24:57, 23:47, and 16:21, respectively. Union still had the lead by 1 goal, 4-3. At the 14:44 mark, the game was stopped due to inclement weather and the remainder of the game will be rescheduled for a later date.
