The Hobbton Wildcats hosted the Princeton Bulldogs volleyball team Thursday and lost both JV (2-0) and varsity (3-0) in straight sets.
Wildcat coach Russell Jones said, “It was the same problem we’ve had all year. Looking at the JV score-sheet, we’d get 1 and they’d get 3 and 4 most of the time. When you go around 6 times, they have 20 and we have about 10. Both games were 25-14.”
About the varsity, Jones said, “I thought we did a real good job in the first game. Near the end it was a 3-point match, 20-17. They got a run on serve and won it 25-17. I thought our middle did a good job. The setters worked hard. They are the hardest hitting team we’ve seen all year. They have 2 or 3 that can hit as hard as anyone in the conference. In the second game they got on a bit run, 15-5. We got the serve a couple of times and then it was 25-20. We have trouble stopping anyone when they get on a roll. The third game was 25-14. They didn’t have a bit run but had several 4 and 5 point runs and we had 2 point runs. We served 9 times and that game and got 1 or 2. They were getting 4 and 5. We do some things well; but, we have trouble knocking the ball down.”
The Wildcats travel to North Duplin Tuesday and host Lakewood Thursday.
