The Hobbton Wildcats hosted the Spring Creek Gators Gators Monday night in their annual Homecoming and got a 33-8 win, their third of the season. The field was extremely wet from the rain of the last week or so. By the end of the game, both teams were playing in the mud.

The Wildcats crowned Kenya Bristow Homecoming Queen during the halftime activities.

Wildcat coach Robert Hill said, “It was good to get a win. Offensively, we played good. The offensive line did a good job and the backs ran hard. Defensively, we made some adjustments and put some people in some spots. I thought they did a good job on defense. We’ve got a quick turn around this week to get ready for Princeton Friday.”

The Wildcats had first chance. They turned that into a score on a 4-yard run by Raekwon Bryant. The point after failed on an incomplete pass, just out of reach of the receiver.

Spring Creek turned the ball around starting at their 36-yard line. The Wildcat defense shut them down forcing a punt. The Wildcats turned the ball around at the Gator 49-yard line. They burned a good bit of time off the clock scoring again on a 13 yard run by Bryant with 3:51 left in the first quarter. The point after failed on a run. The score was 12-0.

The Gators took over and scored a touchdown on the run back only to have it called back on a holding call. They started their drive at the 46-yard line. With 40 second left in the quarter, Jessie Casper hit Najee Young on a 34-yard pass play to get on the board. With the 2-point conversion, the score was 12-8 at the end of the first quarter.

On the next possession, the Wildcats lost a fumble with Gabriel Ortiz recovering for the Gators at the 44-yard line. There, they stayed. After 4 downs they gave up the ball at the Wildcat 44-yard line. With 4:59 left in the half, Josh Polk scored on a 2-yard run. Polk caught a Gregory Herring pass for the point after attempt making the score 20-8.

Spring Creek turned the ball around and came out throwing. That didn’t work out too well as JD Faison picked off Casper at the 20-yard line and returned it to the 35 before being brought down. The Wildcats gave up the ball deep in their territory but the Gators were unable to do much with it punting it away with 51 seconds left in the half.

The Gators started the second half deep in their own territory where they ran 3 plays and punted. The Wildcats took over at the Gator 35-yard line. With 7:51 left in the third quarter, Bryant scored again on a 6-yard scamper just making it across the goal line inside the pylon. Malik Parker kicked the point after for a 27-8 Wildcat lead.

The Wildcat defense stopped the Gators on their next possession taking over at the 42-yard line. They ran a series and punted. However, with 7 seconds left in the third quarter, Spring Creek fumble at the Hobbton 30-yard line. Midway the final quarter, Omar Farrior scored on a 12-yard run for a 33-8 lead. The point after kick was wide leaving the score at 33-8.

Defensively, Chris Faison had 6 tackles and 3 assists. Amanda Alonzo had 4 tackles and 5 assists. Dequanta Wright had 4 tackles and 4 assists.Ty Hunter had 4 tackles and 5 assists.

Offensively, Bryant had 137 yards on 14 carries and 3 touchdowns. Steven Bell had 84 yards on 16 carries. Omar Farrior had 16 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Wildcats, now 3-3, travel to Princeton Friday night. Game time is 7 PM.
