The Lakewood Lady Leopard volleyball team visited the Hobbton Wildcats Thursday and swept them. The JV lost 2-0 to Lakewood and the varsity lost 3-0 to Lakewood.

The JV scores were 25-19 and 25-14 for Lakewood. Wildcat coach Russell Jones said, “The first game we didn’t have any runs except at the end. I thought the JV played the best they have in a few games. Lakewood came away with the win and they are number 1 in the conference. I am pleased with the way the JV played against them even though we got beat 2-0.”

“The varsity got beat 3-0,” Jones continued, “Again, we played well at times. We just don’t do enough of it. The first game was close up to around 10. They went on a 5-point run to go up 15-10. They managed to get 2 or 3 each serve from there on while we manage to get 1 or 2. We, again, hit a dry spell and couldn’t score.

“The second game was 25-15. We were in the same rut. There were times when they would get 4 or 6 on a rotation and we would only get 1 or 2. We are having trouble scoring on offense. We have a couple of good hitters but can’t seem to get more than a 2 or 3 point run. We end hurting ourselves.”

In the third game, the score was 25-20. Jones continued, “Again it was the same thing. The game 12-14 and when you turn around its 19-12 and we don’ recover from it. We just have to be consistent all the way through and we haven’t learned how to do that yet.”

The Wildcats are 1-11 in the conference and 5-13 overall. Next week the Wildcats travel to Spring Creek and host Neuse Charter for Senior night Thursday.
