The Midway Raiders soccer team celebrated Senior Night by hanging a 10-1 beating on West Bladen Monday night. It was the final home game for seniors Nestor Antonio, Alexis Palacios, Jackson Carr, Pedro Gonzales, Derack Medina, Matthew Core, and De’Angelo Williams. Seniors E. J. Butler and Juan Ortiz were also honored but did not play due to injury.
The Raiders wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. In the 3rd minute, Juan Medellin scored to make it 1-0.
Ten minutes later, Medellin struck again assisted by Jonathan Espino. It was 2-0 with 27:06 remaining until intermission.
Medellin completed his hat trick 33 seconds later. This time the assist was by Nestor Antonio.
Uvaldo Acosta joined the score-fest with 18:46 left to make it 4-0. Just 43 seconds later, he would strike again to make it 5-0.
With 12:30 remaining in the half, Jackson Royal eased one in to give the Raiders a 6-0 lead, which would be the score at intermission.
In the 43rd minute, Medellin already with a hat trick, hit pay dirt again, with an assist from Acosta. 7-0 Raiders.
Exactly 11 minutes later, with 26:49 remaining, senior Derack Medina found the back of the goal to make it 8-0.
The Knights got their only goal with 24:19 left to play. Victor Lopez put them on the board.
The Raiders needed 2 more goals for a 9 goal lead and the game could be called. Lucio Vasquez got one of them with at the 19 minute mark, with an assist from Espino. Twenty-three seconds later, Acosta completed his hat trick and sent everyone home early. The final tally was 10-1.
“We finally played like I knew we could all year,” attested Midway coach Allen McLamb. “I’m proud of the whole team. Everyone got some time and it’s just a good way to have a Senior Night.
The Raiders improve to 9-9-2 overall, and 5-8 in the Four County Conference. They will finish the regular season at Union tonight.
