Midway Middle School claimed the conference volleyball championship on Tuesday with a thrilling five set win over Sampson Middle. The two met twice in the regular season, and Sampson took each of those matches. The Raiders were able to finally get over the hump this time, and earn the conference title.
Stats were not available from either team at press time, but we were able to catch up with current Midway High School volleyball coach, Jennifer Naylor, who really liked what she saw from a team that will shortly be high-schoolers.
“We are incredibly proud of the job Coach Tracy Wrench is doing at the middle school, and are incredibly proud of the team as well. They played hard and played together, and show some truly great potential,” she said. “Ms. Lamm, our assistant coach, and I are excited about the future of Midway volleyball.”
Sampson’s stellar season comes to an end without a conference tournament championship, but they were able to claim the regular season title after having an undefeated year, up until Tuesday.
The future of volleyball at Midway and Clinton are in good hands, as these two teams are each loaded with talent, and are each very well-coached. Volleyball matches between the two schools should be good for years to come.
