Another successful week resulting in a 5-0 record, bringing the season total to 36-7. Last week, Clinton overcame a slow start against Trask, Midway got the crucial road win against West Bladen, Lakewood shut out Princeton, Union lost in the last minute against East Bladen, and Hobbton lost a heartbreaker to North Duplin. This week, Rivalry Week, is the biggest week in the regular season for all of the county schools.
The Lakewood Leopards travel to Hobbton to play the rival Wildcats. Nothing would please the Wildcats more than to upset the Leopards. Hobbton has had a season of ups and downs and the Leopards, coming off of a big shut out last week, might be primed for a let down. But, it’s not to be. The Wildcats will have a hard time putting up points against the Leopard defense and the Leopard offense continues to cruise.
Final Score: Lakewood- 35 Hobbton- 7
The Spartans of Union finish the regular season with a trip to Spivey’s Corner to face the Raiders. The Spartans will try to finish the season with a winning record and they have the tools to possibly pull it off. The Spartans have played well defensively all year and if the offense can generate a couple of big plays, things could get interesting in the holler’n capitol.
Final Score: Union- 14 Midway- 21
In the Game of the Week, the Clinton Dark Horses play host to the Wallace Rose Hill Bulldogs. This game has the potential to be the best game of the season in the county and should be a good old-fashioned slugfest. The Bulldogs come into this game with one loss to James Kenan and ranked number 1 in the MaxPreps.com North Carolina 1A rankings, while Clinton has one loss to 4A Hoggard and is ranked number 8 in the MaxPreps.com North Carolina 2A rankings. The Bulldogs will look to avenge last year’s 35-7 loss and bring a high scoring offense that will test the Dark Horse defense throughout the night. If Clinton’s offensive line can make some holes for the Dark Horses’ stable of runners, Clinton should put up enough points to win. The Horses will have to eliminate unforced errors that have plagued them all season and protect the football to be successful. Home field advantage will prove to be key, as the Dark Horses pull out a squeaker.
Final Score: Clinton- 35 Wallace-Rose Hill- 28
