Pigskin Picks: Clinton versus Beddingfield

Clinton’s Ryheem Skinner turns the corner for a long gain in Friday’s game against North Brunswick. Skinner rushed for 176 yards in the Dark Horses first round game and looks to have another big game this week against Beddingfield

Clinton defensive end, Prentice Murphy, sacks North Brunswick quarterback during last Friday’s game. Murphy and the Clinton defense will need to keep the pressure on Beddingfield’s quarterback to slow down the Bruins passing game.

Last week was the final week of a full slate as three of the five county schools bowed out in the first round of the playoffs. Last week’s picks resulted in a 5-0 record to run the season record to 42-10.

This week’s feature game is between the Clinton Dark Horses and the Wilson Beddingfield Bruins. The 5-seed Bruins come into Dark Horse Stadium with their sights set on upsetting the 4-seed Dark Horses. The Bruins come out of the Eastern Plains conference with a 7-5 record and ranked number 23 in the Class 2A MaxPreps.com rankings.

The Bruins won their first round game against South Granville by a score of 35-14. And Clinton easily took care of North Brunswick, routing the Scorpions 49-18.

The Dark Horse offense piled up 519 total yards in their first round game, with three running back tallying over 100 yards each. The Bruins will find it tough to stop the Dark Horse rushing attack. Look for Clinton to have another big night on the ground.

Clinton’s defense will be tested by the Beddingfield offense that likes to put the ball in the air. Quarterback Lamont Morgan will look to hook up with receiver Kenneth Sims, who grabbed a touchdown pass in last week’s game. The Dark Horses will have to put pressure on Morgan and force him to make quick throws, or it could be a long night for the home team.

Ryheem Skinner and his backfield mates, Rayquan Faison and Tyion Wright, should have another big night carrying the football. If Clinton’s defense can slow down the Bruins passing attack, then The Dark Horses should advance with a win over the Bruins.

Final Score: Clinton- 35 Beddingfield- 21
