The Clinton Lady Dark Horses got a big road win at Northside High School in Jacksonville on Tuesday night. After leading for the majority of the game, the Lady Dark Horses were able to hold off a late Northside run to bring a 61-60 win back to Sampson County.

Brielle Mitchell once again paced the Lady Horses, as she had 25 points. Alex Canady had another big game, as she had 20, and Kiera Mabry added 7 to the CHS total.

Clinton led 13-8 after a quarter, then 29-25 at halftime. The teams each scored 19 points in a high-powered third quarter, before the Dark Horses ultimately made enough plays down the stretch to hold on for the close victory.

“It was a big win for us,” admitted Clinton’s head coach Chris Owens. “They have a great program. For us to get a road win here, early in the season, it’s big for us. We are very proud of our girls. Brielle really stepped up tonight, and so did Alex. They did a great job of leading and the other girls played hard too. It’s a great game for us and I am very pleased with the way the girls played out there.”

Clinton is now 5-0 on the season, and return home on Thursday when they take on Smithfield-Selma High School. The tip is set for 6 p.m.
