The Hobbton Wildcats and the Midway Raiders girls tangled on the basketball court Friday night with Midway coming away with a 64-33 win.
The Wildcats had a 5-point lead, 11-6, after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Raiders started hitting on all cylinders and pulled away to a 25-20 lead at the break. They kept the pressure on holding a 43-27 lead after the third quarter.
Midway coach Brian Wallum said, “I thought we came out flat in the first quarter. This Hobbton team is a lot better than they were last year. We have some young players and we are trying to run 2 groups of 5 in and out of the game. It took until the second quarter to get going, but they really played hard and finally started making some shots in the second half. That proved to be the difference. Hats off to Coach (Leonard) Henry. He has done an awesome job. That team plays real hard.”
Coach Henry was not pleased with the result of the game, but was pleased with the effort.
“My execution was not as good. They gave an effort but execution matters in this game. Hats off to Midway and we’ll see them 7 days from now,” commented Hobbton coach Leonard Henry.
Scoring for the Raiders were JJ Sankey with 10 points and Alyssa Wrench with 8. Nina Devone had 18 for the Wildcats and Denise Lamb had 9.
The Wildcats host Union Tuesday night and travel to Midway Friday night. Midway plays North Johnston Tuesday.
