The Lady Spartans hosted the Princeton Bulldogs Monday evening. The Lady Spartans fought hard but lost the game, 37-41.

The first quarter slowly heated up. The score remained 0-0 for the first few minutes but Union was able to get the ball to the basket before the Bulldogs. The Lady Spartans took the lead by the end of the first quarter, 7-4.

The Bulldogs came back during the second quarter and took the lead away from the Lady Spartans. Union fell behind 5 points, 14-19 at the half.

The Lady Spartans would be unable to take the lead again but they fought hard to narrow the gap. After getting behind 24-31 in the third quarter Union was able to close in the Bulldogs but just fell short, 37-41.

Destiny Robinson led the Lady Spartans with 16 points. Justice Johnson and Faith McKoy were both able to put up 8 points. Shamyra Hope contributed 3 and Alison Alphin had 2.

Head coach, Bryant Register congratulated the Bulldogs but went on to reflect upon his team’s improvements and setbacks.

“It was a back and forth game. I’m very proud of the girls and the way we hustled tonight. We missed a lot of free throws but I’m proud of the way we are competing this year and how were putting things together and hopefully soon we will find our win,” he said.

Union faced Hobbton Tuesday, and Lakewood on Friday.
