The Lady Spartans took on the Wallace-Rose Hill Bulldogs at home on Monday. In what was a close seesaw battle between the two teams, the Lady Bulldogs came out with the victory, 45-37.
The first quarter started very slowly, with neither team putting up many points. Union had the lead for the majority of the quarter until the Wallace took it back in the last few seconds, 8-6.
At the start of the second quarter the Lady Bulldogs started to widen the gap for the lead. The Lady Spartans fought back hard and not only closed the gap but took back the lead, 18-20.
After the half Wallace pushed to narrow in on the Lady Spartans. The Lady Bulldogs took back the lead and managed to keep it by only 3 points by the end of the third quarter, 31-28.
The Lady Bulldogs managed to add a few more points between them and the Lady Spartans in the fourth quarter. It was enough to give Wallace the win, 45-37.
Destiny Robinson led the Spartans with 19 points. Faith Mckoy added 10 points along with Shamyra Hope who had 9.
“I’d like to congratulate the Wallace Lady Bulldogs on a hard fought win,” said Lady Spartan head coach Bryant Register. Register commented on how he though his team could have put in more effort to take the win. “This is the one thing I feared after coming in off of a long holiday break; that our effort just wouldn’t be here tonight. We managed to play well enough to keep the game close but just couldn’t make enough plays down the stretch.”
The Lady Spartans will have another home game Wednesday in which they will take on the Lady Dark Horses of Clinton.
