Lady Leps drop Hobbton

The Hobbton Middle Lady Wildcats hosted the Lady Leopards of Roseboro-Salemburg Middle Monday afternoon in what turned out to be a barn burner. The Lady Leopards managed to hold on to a 22-21 win.

The Leopards had a 5-point lead at 6-1 after the first quarter. During the second quarter, they extended that lead to 10 points at 14-4. In the third quarter, the Leopards got in foul trouble with 2 of their starters and the Lady Wildcats tied it up at 17 apiece after 3 quarters of play. The Wildcats took the lead at 20-19 with just under 3 minutes left in the game. The Leopards tied it at 21 with just over a minute left. In the waning seconds, the Leopards got 1 end of a foul shot to got 22-21. The Wildcats couldn’t get any more points.

The Lady Leopards had a balanced scoring attack with 7 players scoring. S. Smith led with 6. J. Bailey had 5. The rest had 2 each.

Leopard coach Kimberly Mathis said, “It was a tough game. Both teams played very well. I was kind of excited in the beginning because we had a big lead. In the 3rd quarter we had 2 key players with 4 fouls. They cut the lead. We were just happy to win. They beat us by 2 when they came to Roseboro. So, we knew it would be a tough game.”

Roseboro will play at Sampson Thursday Sampson. Hobbton will host Union Middle Thursday for their last home game.
