On Wednesday, Midway soccer star Kimberly O’Brien signed her National Letter of Intent to play soccer at Barton College. The decision to play at Barton came shortly after being offered, and O’Brien said that there was really no other place she wanted to go.
“Barton has always been the place for me,” she said. “The friendly environment and Christian background has had them at the top of my list for a long time, ever since I was offered.”
O’Brien is a Senior at Midway, and come this Spring, will be a four-year starter for the Lady Raider soccer team. Her head coach at Midway, Trey Apperson, had nothing but praise for his star player.
“Kimberly is obviously a very talented soccer player,” said Apperson. “She can play everywhere, and is always doing whatever she can to help us win. She has a passion for the game, just like her entire family does, and I and the Midway organization and soccer program couldn’t be more proud of her and this accomplishment. Barton is getting a good young Lady, and I know that she will have a lot of success there.”
Midway Athletic Director, Brian Wallum also praised O’Brien.
“I have known her and her family for a long time,” he said. “We have went to church together for what seems like forever, and above her being a great soccer player, she is a great young lady that will be successful in whatever she does. We are all proud of her and what she’s done and doing here, and are looking forward to her doing big things at Barton, on and off the field.”
O’Brien has her eyes set on a Biology major from Barton, and is leaning towards becoming a zoologist, or having some sort of career in the zoology field.
Her and the Lady Raiders are set to kick off the new soccer season in March.
