The Midway Lady Raiders fell in the first round of the state playoffs on Tuesday night when they traveled to High Point to take on TW Andrews High School. The Red Raiders played nearly flawless basketball, as they dominated the visitors, 79-31.
TW knocked in over 10 3 point field goals, and cruised to the victory with little resistance from the under-manned Midway team.
The loss ended the Lady Raider season, but head coach Brian Wallum admitted that they did make some progress this season.
“It was not necessarily what we had hoped for, but we overall had a pretty good season,” said Midway’s head coach Brian Wallum. “It is the first winning season that the girls program has had here in years, and that’s something there. It is a really young team, made up of mostly sophomores and freshmen, so they have some great potential. We’ll miss our seniors, Brianna Butler and Taylor Faircloth. They’ve been good leaders for the team this year and have given a lot to this program.”
As for TW Andrews, their play looked as strong as any seen across the East in the state. The 2014 state champions have the team to win it again this year, as they seemingly had no weakness.
The Lady Raiders had hopes of pulling off an upset, but simply ran into a buzz-saw of a team in the Red Raiders.
Midway finished the season at 13-12 and went 8-6 in conference play. They finished the season 4th in the Four County Conference.
