The Lakewood Area Volleyball Association teams in the 14U and 15U divisions competed in regional tournaments this past weekend. The 15U competed in Division III in Greensboro and the 14U competed in Division II in Fayetteville.
Both teams brought homes Silver Medals after a great run, which took them into the championship match.
Coach Jennifer Naylor of the 14U said she was pleased with her team’s play over the course of the tournament.
“The girls continue to play better volleyball at every tournament,” she said. “Our competition is getting more intense, and we are working to be mentally tough to face adversity. It is apparent that the girls are improving day in and day out, which is definitely one of the biggest things we are striving for.”
The 14U had a nail biter against the Harnett Area Volleyball Club (HAVC) in the championship match, which not only went three sets, it went into extra points. LAVA wound up being on the down side of a 17-15 decision. Naylor continued her comments, in saying, “We are proud of another silver medal and are going to work hard to get back into the gold.”
The 15U, coached by Jordan Tew, had an undefeated run all the way to the championship match.
Coach Tew praised her girls’ efforts, saying, “It is incredible to watch how far these girls have come in a short period. They are becoming more comfortable with running an offense and our front line is producing more each match. We didn’t get the gold, but we played a good tournament, and I am very proud of the progress that we are making.”
The 15U dropped the championship match, but were proud of the silver medals and the hard work it took to get them.
LAVA will be back in action this weekend with the 12U, 13U, 16U and 18U all competing around the state. For more information on the Lakewood Area Volleyball Association, visit their Facebook page.
