The Hobbton Wildcats’ ladies soccer team tangled with the Union Lady Spartans Wednesday. The Spartans came out with a win, 3-1.

Union led 2-0 at halftime, and eventually, they were able to pull away for the 2-goal win.

Lady Wildcat head coach Jonathan Jacobs mentioned nerves and inexperience as well as a big issue for them in the contest.

“In the first half, I thought we played our nerves. We still have some girls that are a little tentative,” admitted Jacobs. “The team from last year was so good; but, we lost 8 girls. We have a new crop this year and some still have to figure out what to do. In the second half, we stayed on Union’s side, the attacking half. We got our goal to make it 2-1. We made a mistake and they got another goal with 3 minutes left.”

The Wildcat score came on a goal by Laklyn Bass with an assist from Maggie Langston.

Union’s Paola Sevilla scored all 3 goals for the Lady Spartans, giving her 9 goals through 2 games this season. The Lady Spartan team is now 2-0.

The Wildcat soccer team plays again March 7 at Union.
