The Lady Spartan soccer team hosted the Hobbton Wildcats Monday, March 7. In the end, it was the Lady Spartans who were able to pull out a nice win over the Wildcats, 6-2.

The game started slow with both teams playing hard for control of the ball. Paola Sevilla was able to continue her great play tonight adding 4 goals onto her already 9 goals for this season for 13 in all. She broke away from the Wildcats three times in the first half to find the net at the 25:30, 23:28, and 6:24 marks. In the final seconds of the first half, Wildcat, Ashley Hinterleiter was able to kick in a goal for the Hobbton team, leaving the score 3-1.

The Lady Wildcats tried to come out into the second half with a lot more momentum in hopes of taking the lead. Norma Vallejo was able to slide the ball past the Spartan goalie at the 18:27 mark to make it a 2-1 game.

However, the Lady Spartan defense pushed harder allowing no Wildcat towards the goal for the rest of the game. At the 16:05 mark, Paola Sevilla was able to find the back of the net again. Destiny Robinson added on another goal for the Lady Spartans at 11:02 and Lourdes Barralaga-Ramos scored the last goal before the game came to the end, 6-2.

Lady Spartan head coach, Alyssa Neimeyer, saw so many good things from her team tonight and was very excited with the win. “Tonight we definitely were the best I’ve seen us look so far. We’re starting to come together as a team more and we’re communicating better with each other,” she said.

However, Coach Neimeyer always sees room for improvement. “We still have a ways to go to reach our goals, but overall I’m really happy with what I’ve seen from the girls and the dedication and effort they’ve put in. I’m really excited for the rest of the season,” she concluded.

The Lady Spartans will continue the soccer action tomorrow, March 8 at Lakewood. The Lady Wildcats will travel Wednesday, March 9 to play South Johnston.
