The Hobbton Lady Wildcats hosted the Lady Dark Horses of Clinton Wednesday night in high school softball. The Lady Wildcats got away with a 9-6 come from behind win.
Both teams kept it close early on. The Wildcats had a 2-1 lead after 2 innings. The 5th inning was a big inning for both teams. Clinton jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the top of the inning. The Wildcats would not be outdone. They went up 5-4 on a triple by Mackenzie Williams that scored 3. They picked up another run to go up 6-4 before the end of the inning.
In the top of the 6th, Clinton tied the game at 6. The rest of the sixth and top of the 7th, the game stayed tied at 6. In the bottom of the 7th with the score tied and 2 outs, Meredith Norris got a single that scored Williams from 3rd for the win with 2 more scoring to end the game.
The Wildcats had 18 hits. Pricilla Avilez had 2 runs, Sarah Suggs had 2 runs, Maddie Roesch had 2 runs. Williams, Megan Parker and Caitlyn Stegal had 1 run each.
Wildcat coach Andie Faircloth said was pleased with getting the victory over the Lady Dark Horses.
“It was a good win tonight,” she said. “Mackenzie Williams started the rally in the 5th inning with a triple that drove in 2 run.We kept up the energy into the 7th. Sarah (Suggs) pitched an outstanding game from the mound. She worked hard from beginning to end. She really pulled us out in this game.
“It would be a disservice not to give Meredith Norris a shout-out. She had the game winning hit with 2 outs. It was all around a good game.”
The Lady Wildcats were scheduled to play Rosewood Thursday; however, a problem of some kind will prevent that game, which will be made up later. They will host Spring Creek Tuesday, March 15 for their next game.
