The Lady Spartans welcomed the West Bladen Knights Tuesday evening for some soccer action. Union controlled the whole game and ended the game early due to a mercy ruling, 9-0.

The Lady Spartans dominated the entire game keeping most of the pressure on the West Bladen defense. Union managed to continually move the ball away from the Lady Spartan goalie and maintained control of the ball during both halves of the game.

The Union team was able to find the net five times in the first half. Six goals being from Paola Sevilla, who continued to send balls past the goalie. Sevilla scored at 37:53, 13:02, 8:02, 7:10, and 2:24. Ne’Lexus Jones was able to send the ball to the net for the second goal during the first half at the 26:10 mark.

The Lady Spartans didn’t ease up during the second half either. Defensively, they shut down every opportunity the Lady Knights had. At the 26:48 mark, Rebecca Sevilla sent the ball right past the goalie. This was immediately followed up by another goal from Paola Sevilla at 25:00, increasing her total goals for this season to 19. The last ball found the net at the 19:39 mark from a kick by Chelsea Thrift. The game was called as the Lady Spartans and they took their fourth victory of the season.

Lady Spartan head coach, Alyssa Neimeyer was very happy with how her team performed and the improvements they’ve made. “Tonight was the best I’ve seen our girls play so far. Everything we’ve been working so hard on at practice, like creating passing lanes and communication with each other, finally came together,” she said.

Neimeyer also sees a lot quality things in store for the future.

“We’ve grown so much as a team so far this year and its so great to see them starting to gain more confidence in themselves and their abilities as a team,” she said. “We’re starting to see the girls step up to the ball and take shots that I don’t think they would have taken at the beginning of the season. We’re really looking forward to the rest of conference play.”

The Lady Spartans will be back in action Friday, March 18 against the Trask Titans.
