In a soccer match that remains scoreless for 79:54, the Hobbton Lady Wildcats got by the Neuse Charter 1-0 in their match Tuesday night. A regulation soccer match is 80 minutes.
With just 6 seconds left, Neuse Charter’s goalie batted the ball away into Jovanna Zapata who moved it just enough for Ashley Hinterleiter to get her foot on it and kick it in. All this action was taking place inside the goalie’s box.
Wildcat coach Jonathan Jacobs commented, “It feels good to finally get the monkey off our back and get a win. It’s been a long time coming. The girls hung in there after a long losing streak and practiced really hard to get better on the little things. Tonight was hard fought. Neuse Charter did a really good job. I think they are a better team than they were last year. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Hinterleiter commented, “We worked hard. I’m glad we are finally getting our faith back. It’s been a hard beginning.” On the score, she said, “I barely got my foot on the ball but it was enough to send it in.”
The Lady Wildcats are off for spring break. The season will resume Tuesday, April 5 with a trip to James Kenan.
