The LAVA volleyball set a new club record this year, bringing home three East Region Championship Silver Medals for the 12, 14 and 18U teams.
Anna Heinz won the Tournament MVP for the 18U East Region to cap off quite the season for the club.
“By any measure this was a very successful year for LAVA volleyball,” said leader of the club, Dan Heinz. “Over the course of the season, we amassed an overall record of 74-53, winning two regular season Carolina Region Tournaments and finished second in eight. That’s something to be proud of there.”
Additionally, LAVA won two gold medals and two silver medals at the Nike Elite Tournament and a gold medal at the Southern Classic.
“It is very exciting to see our girls compete on a state wide basis and be successful,” Heinz continued. “We beat teams from clubs that have hundreds of girls playing and far more who try out. We had a great coaching cadre this season that spent a lot of time working with our girls. We keep our team rosters limited so all of our girls get maximum playing time. We had some really great coaching, who knew that lots of playing time is the key to improving.”
LAVA is expanding the program to include summer camps hosted at Mintz Christian Academy and presented by Methodist University this summer, and those dates are set for June 22-23. A UNC-Pembroke camp is set to be held July 25-26 coaches.
The camps will be two days each, with split sessions, with middle school going in the morning and high school in the afternoon.
“Our goal is to provide the girls from Sampson County and in the surrounding area the opportunity to get great training without the expense of overnight camps,” said Heinz.
