Clinton hosted Midway in Four County Conference soccer match on Tuesday night and the Lady Dark Horses were anything but hospitable to their guest. Clinton bolted out to a 6-0 lead by the midway point of the first half and finished off the Lady Raiders just over 19 minutes into the second half with a 9-0 rout of the visitors.

The Lady Dark Horses got their first goal at the 6:58 mark of the first half when Ashlyn Williams gave Clinton all the scoring they would need, the Williams goal was assisted by Alaina Capps. Just over a minute later Katey Yang took a pass from Alaina Capps giving Clinton a 2-0 advantage at the 8:03 mark. The scoring barrage continued less than 45 seconds later when Elizabeth Coleman scored on an assist from Ashyln Williams.

Clinton struck again at the 10:56 mark when Ashlyn Williams took a pass from Katey Yang and booted in the fourth goal of the contest. The Lady Dark Horses would get two more goals in the opening frame, one by Reagan Barefoot assisted by an Ashyln Williams corner kick at 18:14 and the final goal of the half at 20:30 by Katey Yang off another Alaina Capps assist to stake Clinton to a 6-0 halftime lead.

Reagan Barefoot opened up the second half scoring with her second goal of the night off an assist from Katey Yang at the 49:13 mark. The eighth goal of the match came at the 58:08 mark when Hadley Heath scored unassisted. Alaina Capps added the final score when she sent an Elizabeth Coleman pass into the back of the nets at 59:27 to give Clinton the 9-0 mercy rule win.

After the game, Clinton head coach Jeff Smith applauded his team’s play saying, “I thought we played the best half of soccer we have played all season in the first half. We moved the ball well and put a lot of pressure on their defense. Our team really seems to be peaking at the right time.”

The win improves Clinton’s record to 13-4 overall and 9-0 in conference play. Midway drops to 9-5 and 5-4 with the loss. Clinton will host East Bladen on Thursday night at 6 p.m. while Midway will return home to host conference foe Pender on Thursday.
