The Dark Horse men’s tennis team picked up two more wins last week to keep their record unblemished and clinch the Four County Conference regular season title. The Dark Horses played a tough match on Monday against 4A non-conference foe, Lumberton and then wrapped up the regular season on Wednesday when they hosted West Bladen.

Monday’s home match against Lumberton resulted in a hard fought 6-3 victory. The Dark Horses were led by straight set victories by Zach Darden and Peter Darden and third set victories by Luke Swartz and Turner Wells.

Zach Darden teamed with Tyler Kersey to clinch the match and Peter Darden with Turner Wells wrapped up the 6-3 victory with doubles wins.

Wednesday’s match against conference rival West Bladen saw the Dark Horses make quick work of the visitors with an 8-1 rout. Winning singles matches, all in straight sets, were Zach Darden, Jared Hall, Luke Swartz, Peter Darden, and Tyler Kersey.

Clinton swept the doubles matches with John Fox with Jared Hall, Zach Darden with Tyler Kersey, and Rick Daughtry with Wesley Cowand.

After Wednesday’s action Clinton head coach Robert Jones said, “We are very happy and blessed to be where we are at right now. We will spend the next week preparing for the playoffs. The guys are really looking forward to the challenge.

The Dark Horses finish the regular season with a 15-0 record and third consecutive Four County Conference title. Clinton will return to action on Wednesday when they host the Four County Conference tournament. The conference tournament will determine who qualifies for the 2A Mideast regionals. Clinton’s next team match will be at home May 3rd in the first round of the state 2A dual team playoffs.
