Mintz Christian Academy’s softball team lost to the Antioch Gators 19-5 in a game played last week. A young MCA squad hung with the veteran Gators for this first four innings, and lead 4-3 in the third. The inning was highlighted by a three run homer by Courtney Barber.
However, after a Gator pitching change, the Lady Lion bats cooled off, and Antioch began pouring it on.
Mintz head coach Dan Heinz couldn’t fault his team too much, and sees the potential with the young team that he has as of right now.
“We are a very young team and will only continue to get better,” he said. “In our conference we can play girls from sixth grade up, and we have three sixth graders who start, including pitcher Alexis Shirley.”
Shirley, playing against more seasoned competition, had a solid outing as she recorded 3 strikeouts.
Heinz went on to praise his team’s hard play, saying, “I was very pleased with all of their efforts. One of our seniors, Anna Sessoms, made several big plays early on to keep it close.”
Mintz was back in action this week, as they took their show on the road and headed down south to Columbus Christian in Whiteville for a game on Monday afternoon. Information from this game was not available at press time. For sports updates, check out clintonnc.com
