“We finally started hitting the ball in the fifth inning.” That was Midway Middle’s head coach, Steve Tyler’s testament to how they were able to fend off a feisty Hobbton Wildcat team, and score 4 runs to tie the game in the fifth. The Raiders went on to score a pair of runs in the sixth, and then closed out the game
Cameron Barefoot came in and pitched the final four innings for the Raiders and allowed no runs. His pitching effort was crucial during his team’s comeback.
Big hits by Eli Culbreth and Cameron Calcutt helped fuel the Midway fire, as they grabbed the lead and never looked back.
“It was a big comeback win for us,” said Tyler. “That clinches up the conference regular season title for us, which is one of them things that we really wanted entering the season.”
The conference tournament starts next week, with Midway hosting Union for a first round game on Monday. Hobbton is set to host Sampson for their first round game on Monday as well.
