The Hobbton Wildcats came out on top of a pitching, defensive battle, for a 2-1 win over visiting North Duplin to celebrate Senior Night.
Jaquan Farrior got the Wildcats started on base with a walk in the bottom of the first. He would eventually score the first run, and Justin Adkins would get a good hit and would later tack on another run for the Wildcats. This allowed them to go up 2-0, which held until the top of the 4th, when North Duplin scored on an error.
In the top of the 6th, with 2 outs, Mafi Boyer caught a Rebel fly ball deep in right field to preserve the 2-1 lead. In the top of the 7th Hunter Britt, who pitched the whole game, struck out 2, walked 1 and then struck out the 4th batter to preserve the win.
After the game, the Wildcat coach was pleased and proud of his team and his group of senior players.
“Tonight was Senior Night and I want say how proud I am of our seniors here at Hobbton High School,” said Hobbton coach Chris Carroll. “Jaquan Farrier, Mafi Boyer, Greg Herring, Hunter Britt, Daniel Villagomez and Brandon Rogers all played tremendous tonight. Jaquan got it started and was able to set the tone for tonight. It was a great game full of energy. Hunter pitched a phenomenal game going the entire game. This is just great energy. It shows that we are a family and are united. We have many games left to play here at Hobbton. It was an all out great game for all our players. I just want to congratulate our seniors.”
